Lime City sponsored this year's DVOWED Golf Outing at Maple Grove Golf Course on August 8th, signing on as a Platinum-level hole sponsor for the Disabled Veterans Outdoor Wilderness Experience Division (DVOWED).
Spots for the outing are limited each year. Teams that don't get in go on a standby list, and Lime City was lucky to be drawn for one of this year's openings.
DVOWED is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Huntington that gives local disabled veterans opportunities to hunt and fish. Jerry Palmer, a veteran himself, heads up the organization.
Golfers played a shotgun-start Florida scramble during the day, followed by a hog roast dinner and awards for longest drive, closest to the pin, and more. Raffles and prize drawings, including drawings for firearms and a crossbow, added to the funds raised.
John Morris, Mark Jacob, and team captain Ted Dienelt golfed for Lime City, and Lisa Smart volunteered at the outing. Rich Batterson, who is involved with DVOWED and helped organize one of the club's dove hunts, also golfed in this year's outing.
Proceeds from the outing go directly to DVOWED, funding the club's hunting and fishing programs for local veterans, including deer and dove hunts, fishing trips, ice fishing outings, and trips to lakes in Michigan, as well as the organization's annual banquet.
